Be Ready In Season and Out of Season
I love it when unexpected opportunities pop up – and usually you only have split seconds to decide, do I do it or not? Do I jump in or hold back? Do I take advantage of this moment or let it slip away. I have so many regrets of moments like that lost, but I also have known great joy when those times present themselves and I’ve had the courage to dive in. Well, I got to see Judy take advantage of such a moment just before Thanksgiving. We were visiting Nashville before going to my parents for Thanksgiving and I asked Judy if we could go to The Bluebird Café. She’s told me about this place for years – a historic place where artists can come and play their music for anyone who will listen.

We got there a little after six, when the evening’s open mic set began, and though we were planning on simply enjoying listening to the Nashville talent present, Judy had it in the back of her head that she’d love to sing a song if she could, but the place was jam packed and we didn’t even know if we could get in at all to enjoy the evening’s music. After a while several folks left and some seats opened up. Then we found out that you had to sign up to sing at 4pm that day, to be put into the ‘waiting list’ line up. So it wasn’t looking hopeful.
